Full-chain traceability of veterinary drugs will gradually cover production, distribution and use
Recently, the reporter learned from the Ministry of Agriculture that the Ministry of Agriculture has decided, on the basis of earlier pilot projects, to use the National Veterinary Drug Product Traceability System to implement an electronic traceability code (QR code) labeling system for veterinary drug products, accelerate the traceability work for the quality and safety of veterinary drug products, and gradually achieve full-chain traceability management of veterinary drug production, distribution and use.
Since 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture will advance the traceability management of veterinary drug products in a planned and step-by-step manner. Before July 31, 2015, all vaccines for major animal diseases shall be labeled with QR codes before leaving the factory and being marketed and sold; before December 31, 2015, all veterinary biological products, veterinary bulk drugs and veterinary prescription drug products shall be labeled with QR codes before leaving the factory and being marketed and sold; before June 30, 2016, all veterinary drug products shall be labeled with QR codes before leaving the factory and being marketed and sold; from January 1, 2016, traceability management in the distribution and supervision links of veterinary drugs shall be launched, gradually achieving interconnection and sharing of information on the production, distribution and supervision of veterinary drugs; veterinary drug products produced from July 1, 2016 onward that do not use the unified veterinary drug QR code label and do not have product information uploaded shall not be marketed or sold.
A relevant official from the Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture introduced that implementing the veterinary drug product traceability system is an important measure for the Ministry of Agriculture to comprehensively deepen the reform of veterinary drug management. It will effectively improve the informatization level of veterinary drug supervision, enhance veterinary drug enterprises' awareness of quality, integrity, branding and responsibility, promote the transformation and upgrading of the veterinary drug industry, improve the efficiency and level of public services, promote the healthy development of the breeding industry, and safeguard the quality and safety of animal-derived foods and public health security. The National Veterinary Drug Product Traceability System provides free services to society, and the public can freely query the approval, production and distribution status of veterinary drug products through this traceability system.
