National Bureau of Statistics: 2014 grain output up 0.9% year on year

The annual grain planting area was 112.74 million hectares, an increase of 780,000 hectares over the previous year. The cotton planting area was 4.22 million hectares, a decrease of 130,000 hectares. The oil-bearing crops planting area was 14.08 million hectares, an increase of 60,000 hectares. The sugar crops planting area was 1.91 million hectares, a decrease of 90,000 hectares.

Another bumper grain harvest was achieved. The annual grain output was 607.10 million tons, an increase of 5.16 million tons over the previous year, up 0.9%. Among this, the summer grain output was 136.60 million tons, up 3.6%; the early rice output was 34.01 million tons, down 0.4%; and the autumn grain output was 436.49 million tons, up 0.1%. The annual cereal output was 557.27 million tons, up 0.8% over the previous year. Among this, the rice output was 206.43 million tons, up 1.4%; the wheat output was 126.17 million tons, up 3.5%; and the corn output was 215.67 million tons, down 1.3%.

The annual cotton output was 6.16 million tons, down 2.2% over the previous year. The oil-bearing crops output was 35.17 million tons, flat with the previous year. The sugar crops output was 134.03 million tons, down 2.5%. The tea output was 2.09 million tons, up 8.7%.

The annual total meat output was 87.07 million tons, up 2.0% over the previous year. Among this, the pork output was 56.71 million tons, up 3.2%; the beef output was 6.89 million tons, up 2.4%; the mutton output was 4.28 million tons, up 4.9%; and the poultry meat output was 17.51 million tons, down 2.7%. The poultry egg output was 28.94 million tons, up 0.6%. The milk output was 37.25 million tons, up 5.5%. At the end of the year, the hog herd was 465.83 million head, down 1.7%; the number of hogs slaughtered was 735.10 million head, up 2.7%.

The annual aquatic product output was 64.50 million tons, up 4.5% over the previous year. Among this, the output of farmed aquatic products was 47.62 million tons, up 4.9%; and the output of caught aquatic products was 16.88 million tons, up 3.5%.

The annual timber output was 81.78 million cubic meters, down 3.1% over the previous year.

The annual newly added irrigated farmland area was 1.32 million hectares, and the newly added water-saving irrigation area was 2.23 million hectares.
