Introduction and Appreciation of the Cymbidium faberi 'Hetang Yuese' Variety
Orchids0 views
Hetang Yuese: In 2003, Mr. Meng Libo purchased it from an orchid enthusiast in Hubei and named it. Fan-shaped grass, fish-belly leaves, edge leaves holding dew, sharply tapered tips (as if the leaf tips had been trimmed with scissors), leaf material broad, thick and firm. (The leaf description is based on normal growing conditions; under shaded cultivation the plant form varies considerably.) The flower color is delicate and elegant, and depending on the climatic conditions of the year, from the beginning of bud development it can range from emerald green to light green, and from light green to ivory yellow (or ivory white), with rich variation; further observation and exploration are still needed to confirm this. When it first opens it is graceful and stately, then gradually becomes vigorous and powerful. The leaf posture is slender and obliquely upright, with a sense of elegance. The leaf texture is glutinous and glossy, most leaf tips are bluntly rounded, and strong plants will have several leaves forming a cup and holding dew. The flower opens in lotus form; when it first opens the tongue is round and large, and when fully open the tongue curls. The five petals are short and broad, with an arching embrace, and the flower holds well. The stem is like a lamp wick, well arranged, and the flower posture is like a lotus in a pond, elegant and lively. The flower color is tender, slightly green when it first opens, becoming closer to milky white the longer it opens. The flower lives up to its name, truly like a lotus under the moonlight, delicate and about to drip.
Cymbidium faberi 'Suhua Hetang Yuese' (Moonlight over the Lotus Pond): In 2003, Mr. (The leaf description is based on normal environmental conditions; under shaded cultivation the plant form varies considerably.) The flower color is delicate and elegant; depending on the climatic conditions of the year, from the start of flower bud development it can range from emerald green to light green, and from light green to ivory yellow (or ivory white), with rich variation, though further observation and exploration are still needed to confirm it. When it first opens it is graceful and opulent, then gradually becomes vigorous and powerful. The leaf posture is slender and obliquely upright, with a flowing sense of grace. The leaf texture is glutinous and glossy, most leaf tips bluntly rounded, and strong plants will have several leaves forming a hood holding dew. The flower opens in lotus form; when it first opens the lip is round and large, and when fully open the lip curls. The five petals are short and broad, with an embracing curve, and the flower holds well. Lampwick-like stem, well arranged, the flower posture like a lotus in a pond, flowing and lively. The flower color is tender, slightly green when it first opens, becoming closer to milky white the longer it opens. The flower is true to its name, indeed like a lotus under moonlight, delicately beautiful and about to drip.
