Sharing the cultivation methods and care experience for Dafugui
Cultivation of Dafugui --- repost
http://www.dfac.cc/showtopic-119-527017-0-0-1.htm
This Dafugui produced 3 new growths this year from 2 growths, and one of the new growths has 8 leaves, so you cannot say it is not robust. Under the same care, I noticed red spots appearing on the leaves of this pot of orchids ------- a sign of too much water. Today I decided to repot it and take a closer look at the cause.
Summary as follows:
1. Elongated plastic pots are not very suitable for growing Dafugui; with a little too much water, spots appear.
2. The growing medium should not be too rich; if it is too rich, it burns the roots, and the roots do not like to grow downward.
3. Compared with other varieties, Dafugui does not like water and also needs less light.
Below is the Dafugui I repotted today: 2 growths produced 3, with flower buds, but the roots are not good, the medium is too rich, and watering was on the heavy side.
Not many roots, new root tips burned, no crystal root tips. The medium has a lot of peanut shells, and too much black soil is the main reason. Because the soil is rich, there are many new growths but not many roots. Because the soil is rich, the roots are not good but there are flower buds. If 30% of the black soil and peanut shells can be removed and replaced with Kiryu stone, that would be a medium that allows good root growth. I hope this is useful to fellow orchid growers.
Thank you to the original poster for sharing your experience with everyone! There is also wonderful discussion in the replies, please do not miss it (moderator's note).
Langman de Shui wrote:Personally, I think Dafugui and Luyun prefer a somewhat drier growing medium, and it is best to grow them in medium or small pots.Today, after repotting Dafugui and Luyun, I indeed found this problem. It seems each variety has its own characteristics.⟧Growing orchidsThe joy probably lies right here.
Today I added more snake wood and fired soil to the growing medium, and will see again next year.
I like reading your posts, orchid brother.
