Rice prices rise in some areas due to a temporary supply shortage
During the Spring Festival, rice processing enterprises in Northeast China stopped operation, and they also resumed work relatively late after the holiday, so the rice market supply was relatively small; moreover, before the holiday, distributors in sales areas were rather pessimistic about the later rice price trend, so they kept relatively small rice stocks. After the holiday, market demand recovered, and rice market supply in some areas formed a shortage, so rice prices rose.
Japonica rice market prices rose in some sales areas; as of March 11, japonica rice prices in the Hangzhou area had risen noticeably compared with prices at the end of February. Monitoring shows that the wholesale price of high-quality japonica rice produced in Jiangsu was 4540 yuan/ton, up 40 yuan/ton from the end of February; the wholesale price of japonica rice produced in Anhui was 4440 yuan/ton, up 40 yuan/ton from the end of February; and the wholesale price of round-grain japonica rice produced in Northeast China was 5000 yuan/ton, up 160 yuan/ton from the end of February.
The rice market in Northwest China remained stable; as of March 11, rice prices in the Ningxia area were basically stable. Monitoring shows that the wholesale price of paddy in the area was 1.45 yuan/jin, and the wholesale price of national standard grade-4 rice was 2.36 yuan/jin, both flat with before the holiday. After the Spring Festival, rice processing enterprises have successively resumed operation, but the progress of paddy purchasing and sales was still slow, and overall market trading was relatively dull.
