How should the price competitiveness of China's agricultural products be improved?
Anhui netizen "Xiaomili": My hometown is in the countryside. When I went home for the Spring Festival this year, I heard villagers say that last year's vegetables and fruit did not sell well. In the past, our family's agricultural products were all exported, but last year the price advantage was not obvious, and exports were not smooth either. May I ask, how should the price competitiveness of China's agricultural products be improved?
Niu Dun, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization agencies and former Vice Minister of Agriculture: Indeed, the domestic and international prices of some of China's agricultural products are inverted. To solve this problem and enhance the price competitiveness of China's agricultural products, first, more preferential policies for farmers should be introduced, giving farmers more subsidies, but subsidy policies must not distort trade prices; second, corresponding work plans and work schedules should be formulated according to policy, with targeted subsidies for agricultural product processing and other aspects; third, an efficient and clean work team should be organized, supervision and oversight should be strengthened, and subsidy policies should be implemented.
In addition, China also needs to strengthen agricultural scientific research, promote the transformation of agricultural scientific and technological achievements, provide farmers with more training opportunities, and increase investment in agricultural infrastructure construction, so as to ensure the effective supply of agricultural products and increase farmers' incomes.
