Because Moon Sand Da Fugui is extremely popular among orchid enthusiasts for its flowers, large biological companies have produced a great many hybrids using it as the mother plant. The fragrance of Chinese orchids is collectively called subtle fragrance. Different species of orchids each have different fragrances. For example, the fragrance of plain-colored flowers of the Four Seasons Orchid is relatively pure, the fragrance of the Chinese Cymbidium is like osmanthus fragrance, and the fragrance of the Spring Orchid is the purest, being the typical example of subtle fragrance; however, some Spring Orchids have only a faint, delicate scent, and some Spring Orchids have no fragrance at all. Chinese Cymbidium blooms several flowers at once, and smells best from a distance. Relatively speaking, the fragrance of plain-colored flowers is fairly pure. Exactly how many types of orchid fragrance are there?

 1. Subtle fragrance: a fragrance that refreshes the mind and lifts the spirits when smelled, making one feel extremely comfortable. Subtle fragrance, when at the door it welcomes guests, and indoors it is even more fragrant. When you deliberately try to smell it, it refuses to give off scent; drifting with the wind, it scents the air without intent. Its fragrance penetrates the heart and lungs; after a while you no longer smell it, the fragrance and the person become one - very special indeed. Subtle fragrance is unique to Chinese orchids.

 2. Delicate fragrance: this is also orchid fragrance, yet it cannot be carried by the wind; this is called delicate fragrance. Commonly known as: "has fragrance but no scent." If you lightly tap the orchid pot with your hand or fan the air near the flowers with your palm, its fragrance still will not drift out. You can only smell the fragrance when you get close to the orchid's flowers.

3. Grass fragrance: some varieties among Chinese orchids have only a faint, fresh grass fragrance, or a rather odd odor, commonly known as: "has scent but no fragrance." Fragrance is the soul of Chinese orchids. Because it is unthinkable for an orchid, the "king of fragrances," to have no fragrance. An orchid known as "national fragrance," if it has no fragrance, cannot be called a Chinese orchid. Therefore, it is certainly good for an orchid to have fragrance, and even better to have subtle fragrance.
