Can Low-Priced Seeds Be Bought? Be Cautious When Purchasing
It is currently the season of spring plowing and spring farming preparation. When reporters visited some agricultural supply markets, they found that the problem of low-priced seeds "passing off as genuine" occurs from time to time. Industry insiders remind that seeds priced too low may have hidden quality concerns, so do not be greedy for cheapness and end up suffering losses.
At a large agricultural supply wholesale market in Hubei, the surging crowds brought a great deal of business opportunity, and many vendors directly placed rice seeds outside the counter for sale. The rice seeds sold by these vendors came in many varieties and at varying prices, and low-priced seeds had even become a "magic weapon" for attracting customers.
Reporters noted that ordinary rice seeds are priced at around 30 yuan per jin, while these low-priced seeds cost only 15 yuan to 20 yuan per jin, with the lowest even at only 8 yuan per jin. Flipping through the rice seed packaging, one can see that some of these low-priced seeds have not been approved by the agricultural department, and some have blurry production dates, which makes people uneasy. However, because the price is cheap, some farmers still choose to buy a few packets to try.
Industry insiders remind that low-priced seeds are mostly unlicensed seeds, stock seeds or falsely labeled seeds, and pose huge quality risks. After farmers buy and plant them, it is highly likely that the yield will be affected because the seed purity and cleanliness are too low. When selecting seeds, farmers should try as much as possible to buy through formal channels and pay attention to keeping shopping receipts.
