The Ministry of Commerce will continue to advance the pilot construction of public-interest agricultural product markets
Recently, the Ministry of Commerce held a press conference. Spokesperson Shen Danyang stated that this year the Ministry of Commerce will continue to work with the Ministry of Finance and other departments to advance the pilot program, build another batch of public-interest wholesale markets for agricultural products, further improve the public-interest safeguard mechanism, and gradually build a public-interest agricultural product market system, striving to develop relatively mature experience and practices in the construction of investment, operation and supervision mechanisms and in the performance of public-interest functions.
Wholesale markets for agricultural products have a strong public-interest character. Shen Danyang said that last year the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance selected 10 localities to carry out pilot construction of public-interest wholesale markets for agricultural products, focusing on establishing long-term mechanisms in investment guarantee, operation management and government supervision, and enhancing the government's capacity for macro-control and for safeguarding people's livelihoods when responding to emergencies and abnormal market fluctuations; 6 localities were selected to carry out the construction of cross-regional agricultural product circulation infrastructure, focusing on building a national backbone network for agricultural product circulation.
