This website news  On April 21, Vice Minister of Agriculture Yu Kangzhen inspected marine fishery development work in Zhoushan City and Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. He stressed that it is necessary to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of marine fisheries, strengthen the renewal and upgrading of distant-water fishing vessels, continuously improve China's distant-water fishing industry system, and enhance the comprehensive strength and international competitiveness of the distant-water fishing industry.

During the inspection, Yu Kangzhen and his delegation successively went deep into aquatic product wholesale markets, fishing ports, distant-water fishing bases, and processing enterprises, talked with fishermen, local officials, and enterprise leaders, learned about aquatic product trade, processing, distant-water fishing vessel construction, base construction, and other aspects of marine fishery development, and carefully listened to everyone's opinions and suggestions. At the Zhoushan International Aquatic City, Yu Kangzhen had a careful conversation with merchants in the middle of trading and the person in charge of the market, and asked in detail about the traded varieties, prices, and fishing resource conditions. He pointed out that Zhoushan City is an important fishing area in China, and Zhoushan International Aquatic City, as one of the country's top ten agricultural product origin wholesale markets, must buy from all over the country, sell across the country, serve the whole country, and radiate across the country, and must become the country's aquatic product wholesale base.

⟦NL> At the symposium held at the Zhoushan Ximatou National Distant-Water Fishing Base, Yu Kangzhen fully affirmed the achievements of Zhoushan City in building the national distant-water fishing base. He pointed out that building the national distant-water fishing base has important significance for enhancing the service and support capacity of distant-water fishing, promoting the transformation and upgrading of marine fisheries in Zhejiang and even the whole country, and safeguarding the country's maritime rights and interests. He stressed that the base construction should be planned within the overall situation of the national “Belt and Road” strategy and the safeguarding of the country's maritime rights and interests; development should be sought in aligning with and serving the national maritime strategy and the agriculture “going global” strategy; and achievements should be made in advancing the transformation and upgrading of the entire distant-water fishing industry chain and system, and in driving the surrounding areas and radiating across the country.

Yu Kangzhen was very concerned about the construction of the distant-water fishing industry system, and made a special trip to Zhejiang Ocean Family Co., Ltd. in Ningbo City, where he entered the tuna cold storage and processing workshops. After carefully learning about the company's distant-water fishing, processing, market sales, and quality control, he pointed out that to make the distant-water fishing industry bigger and stronger, it is necessary to accelerate the renewal and upgrading of fishing vessels and enhance the equipment and technical level of the distant-water fleet; it is necessary to cultivate and strengthen modern distant-water fishing enterprises and enhance international competitiveness; it is necessary to make good use of both international and domestic markets and both offshore and distant-water resources, pay more attention to the effective supply of domestically scarce seafood, and strive to meet the growing domestic consumer demand; and it is necessary to extend the distant-water fishing industry chain to the high end of the value chain, vigorously develop cold storage, processing, trade, and so on, and improve the quality and efficiency of the industry.
