New wheat in eastern Henan and western Shandong is poised for a bumper harvest. According to the southern route wheat survey by the China Grain Network, the wheat sown area in Shangqiu, Henan, has maintained a slight upward trend in recent years, and wheat varieties are mainly high-yield wheats such as Aikang 58, Zhongmai 18, and Zhongmai 22. In terms of high-quality wheat planting, the main varieties include Zhoumai 24, Xinmai 26, and Zhengmai 7698, with an incompletely counted sown area of less than 1 million mu, and planting is relatively scattered. Judging from the current growth situation, pests and diseases are occurring rather severely, leading to mild white head symptoms, but the overall wheat growth is the best in historical years, and it can be expected that if the weather is normal later, there will still be a bumper harvest year. Wheat growth in Heze, Shandong, is relatively good, but unlike the areas surveyed earlier, local enterprises do not believe that the local wheat support price plan will be activated, because Shandong had rarely activated the plan before, and because Shandong wheat quality is relatively good, with many buyers from surrounding areas coming in past years, and at one point the saying "(wheat) rises, look to Shandong" was circulated. From our on-the-ground understanding, the mainstream local wheat price is about 1.25 yuan/jin, roughly the same as wheat prices in surrounding areas.
Corn land rent in western Jilin has risen noticeably According to a survey by the China Grain Network, corn planting in the Tantu area of Baicheng, Jilin, had already been fully completed in early May, with 20-30% emergence; among planting costs, only land rent rose noticeably, while other seeds and fertilizers were basically unchanged. Local corn yield is 16,000-18,000 jin per hectare, and better plots can reach 20,000 jin per hectare. Excluding costs, the net profit for farmers not renting land is 7,000-8,000 yuan per hectare. At present, there is no surplus grain left to sell, because local corn is mostly stored as ground-piled grain, so generally most grain sales are completed by March each year. In Taobei District, Da'an Shaoguo, and Anguang, corn planting time was comparable to previous years, with 80-90% of planting completed, and most plots had not yet emerged. The main planted variety is the Xianyu series, and it is expected to be fully completed around May 20.
