At yesterday's Beijing epidemic prevention and control work session, an official from the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau explained the recent performance of market vegetable prices. First-level inspector Wang Hongcun said that due to multiple factors, vegetable prices in the city, especially leafy vegetables, have continued to rise since the National Day holiday. Monitoring shows that wholesale vegetable supply has declined recently; due to the diversity of the city's distribution channels, terminal market stocks remain sufficient and supply is stable. However, since October, vegetable prices have generally shown a fluctuating upward trend. From October 1 to 25, the average wholesale price of vegetables in our city rose 39.8% month-on-month; the composite retail price rose 20.4% month-on-month. Some leafy vegetables and fresh tender vegetables rose even more, with some increasing by more than 50% or more.

Ministry of Commerce: Last week, prices of edible agricultural products and means of production rose

According to Ministry of Commerce monitoring, last week (October 18 to 24), the national market price of edible agricultural products rose 4.3% compared with the previous week (the same below), and the market price of means of production rose 5% compared with the previous week. Meat prices rose overall, among which the wholesale price of pork was 19.47 yuan per kg, up 9.7%; coal prices rose somewhat, among which the price of thermal coal was 1,214 yuan per ton, up 17.7%.

The high-level operation of vegetable prices will still continue

Wang Hongcun, first-level inspector of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, introduced that in the coming period, the supply of daily necessities, especially vegetable prices, will still face more challenges. First, the winter supply period is about to begin, and vegetables in the city will shift from northern vegetable supply to southern vegetable supply, lengthening transport distances; in addition, rising energy prices such as coal have increased the cost of northern greenhouses, which will drive up production costs. Second, the epidemic prevention and control situation is severe, and tightening and stricter control measures in many places are increasing uncertain factors, which will drive up transport costs. Third, the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics are approaching, and the two festivals are coming, so demand will gradually rise, producing a pre-holiday effect. Nationwide, the high-level operation of vegetable prices will still continue.
