Precipitation in the central and eastern parts of North China this week will help alleviate drought conditions
Last week, most of northern China had good light and heat conditions, which was conducive to crop growth; most of North China received effective precipitation, and drought conditions eased in some areas; central Liaoning, western Shandong Peninsula and other places still had no effective precipitation, and drought conditions persisted. Eastern Southwest China, along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and southern South China received heavy precipitation, and some areas suffered floods; however, the rainfall helped reservoir and pond water storage in southern South China. Central and southern Jiangnan and most of South China experienced 3 to 6 days of high temperatures, which was unfavorable for early rice grain filling and late rice seedling raising. Most of Southwest China had a good match of light, temperature and water, which was conducive to crop growth; western Yunnan had more precipitation, and drought conditions were further alleviated.
It is expected that this week, the main rainfall areas in China will be located in South China, Yunnan-Guizhou, Jianghan, Jianghuai and the central and western parts of Jiangnan, among which some areas in eastern Jianghan, South China and Yunnan will receive 120 to 180 mm of precipitation. North China will have frequent showers, with cumulative rainfall of 20 to 40 mm, including 60 to 80 mm in the central and eastern parts of North China, which will help alleviate drought conditions. However, southwestern Northeast China, northern Shaanxi and western Shandong Peninsula still have no effective precipitation, and drought conditions will occur and develop in some areas. From July 21-24, southeastern Southwest China, western Jiangnan, Jianghan and Jianghuai will have heavy to torrential rain, with localized torrential rain; short-term heavy precipitation can easily trigger floods, which is unfavorable for crop growth and development and for early rice harvesting and drying in western Jiangnan.
It is expected that this week, Xinjiang will still experience sustained widespread high temperatures, with maximum temperatures in most areas reaching 35 to 38°C and exceeding 42°C in some places. The high temperatures are unfavorable for the growth and development of cotton and other crops and can easily lead to snowmelt-type floods.
