Website news. Recently, the "2015 China-EU Potato Processing Technology Matchmaking Event" was held in Beijing. Chinese and European experts, entrepreneurs and representatives of regulatory authorities actively exchanged new achievements, new technologies and new processes around China-EU potato processing development trends, storage, transportation and processing technologies and equipment, and other areas, explored new cooperation goals, new measures and new mechanisms, and reached new consensus, new progress and new results.

A relevant official from the Agricultural Product Processing Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture introduced a series of work carried out in recent years to promote the development of potato staple food products and other aspects.

First, actively seek financial support. The Agricultural Product Processing Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture actively communicated and coordinated with financial departments to seek support. Through efforts on multiple sides, the central financial subsidy funds for primary processing of agricultural products at production areas increased from 600 million yuan last year to 1 billion yuan this year, an increase of 67%, mainly used for the storage and preservation of potatoes, fruits and vegetables, of which 100 million yuan was specifically used to support the development of potato staple food products.

Second, promote the establishment of a potato staple food processing industry alliance. This year, the preparatory work for the national potato staple food processing industry alliance was launched, guiding government departments in major potato-producing areas, production enterprises, processing enterprises, equipment enterprises and other industrial and commercial capital, and relevant research institutes to join, exploring a market-led mechanism of division of labor, cooperation, exchange and innovation as well as reasonable pre-production, in-production and post-production resource allocation and benefit distribution mechanisms, strengthening industry self-discipline and self-service, and accumulating experience for the establishment and operation of a national staple food processing industry alliance.

Third, support the research, development and promotion of potato staple food processing technology. Actively seek the support of agricultural investment authorities, give priority to promoting the construction of an integrated research and development platform for potato staple food processing technology, and launch the approval and implementation of relevant projects. Organize research teams such as the Institute of Processing of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to carry out research on potato staple food products, developing more than 50 products in more than 10 series including steamed buns, noodles and blended rice, completing pilot tests in 5 staple food processing enterprises, and achieving standardized production and market sales in 2 staple food processing enterprises. Prepare to convene a national potato staple food processing science-enterprise matchmaking event to further consolidate strength in the field of potato staple food development and accelerate the resolution of technical and equipment difficulties in industrial development.

Fourth, carry out the formulation and revision of relevant standards. In response to the lag in relevant standards for potato staple food products in China, arrangements were made for the Institute of Processing of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to take the lead in organizing the drafting of basic standards such as the classification and terminology of potato staple food products, quality and safety control specifications, and testing methods for potato proportion, so as to further form consensus and promote standardized production.

Fifth, strengthen publicity and guidance. Through rich and diverse thematic activities, compiled knowledge manuals and other means, publicize modern staple food consumption concepts and enhance consumers' awareness of potato staple food products. In the national staple food processing demonstration enterprise recognition and staple food processing "time-honored brand" publicity and promotion activities, special attention was given to potato staple food processing enterprises, and publicity and promotion efforts were increased. At the same time, he said that the overall level of potato processing in China is still not high, a large number of products such as potato starch still rely on imports, and there is still a large gap between processing technology and equipment and advanced foreign levels, with problems such as few product varieties, low processing utilization rate, small value-added margin, and heavy energy-saving and emission-reduction tasks, which urgently need to be solved. Europe is a major country in world potato production and trade, with a relatively high level of specialization, standardization and mechanization, especially in processing, with strong research and development strength, advanced technology and processes, high product conversion rate and strong market competitiveness, which is worth learning from and drawing on. It is hoped that both sides will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the future.

The agricultural counselor of the Embassy of the Netherlands in China said that 2015 is an important year for China's potato processing industry and that this matchmaking event will be taken as an opportunity to continuously advance China-Netherlands potato processing industry cooperation in technology, equipment, comprehensive utilization and other aspects.

It is reported that since 2012, the Agricultural Product Processing Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture of China has carried out China-EU potato processing technology matchmaking activities for three consecutive years, which has played a positive role in promoting technical exchange and cooperation in the China-EU potato processing industry.
