An introduction to the ornamental characteristics of the Jubaohé (Yunhé) lotus-petal orchid
Lianban orchid (Cymbidium tortisepalum var. longibracteatum), won the gold award at the 2011 China (Kunming Pan-Asia) Orchid Expo. Jubaohé, also known as Yunhé, is a broad-leaf Lianban orchid variety. The leaves are 25-45cm long and 1.0-1.5cm wide, thick and hard in texture, with a relatively flat surface and coarse veins; the serrations along the leaf edges are relatively coarse. The leaf buds emerge earth-red, and the leaf tips contain a relatively high amount of crystal tissue and tend to burn at the tips. The flowering period is January to February, with 2-3 flowers per scape; the flower stalk is about 20cm tall, the flowers rise above the leaves, and the flower form is large. The flowers are pinkish-white, with the main and secondary petals being typical lotus petals; the petal texture is thick, tender and glutinous, and the red veins in the center of the petals are broad and coarse, running through to the petal tips. The lip is a large round lip that curls back, marked with large red patches, and the cheeks are purple-red, with no open "skylight" gap. The whole flower is dignified and generous, with the bearing of a gentleman.
