Introduction to the Cymbidium goeringii 'Taoyuan Sanyijie' (Peach Garden Three Sworn Brothers) Orchid Variety

    Taoyuan Sanyijie is a new variety originating from the famous orchid-growing region of Sichuan - the Mabian mountain area. It belongs to the Sichuan spring sword stamen butterfly category. As soon as this flower appeared, it astonished the orchid world with its brilliance, fragrance, and uniqueness, embodying the spiritual essence of the Bashu region, and became a treasure among the aristocracy of the orchid world (spring sword butterfly flowers).

    From its discovery in 1992 to 1999, Taoyuan Sanyijie bloomed consistently for four consecutive years, with a stable flower form, each bloom identical to the others, and a refreshing fragrance. The flower stem of this plant is about 30 cm tall. When the flower buds are about to open, the flower stem and buds are a fresh peach-red rose color. One stem bears 4-5 flowers, each one an identical large bloom, graceful and moving, with a fragrance that surpasses all others, pure and far-reaching. The outer petals are covered with fine red stripes, and the three outer petals are evenly distributed in a triangular arrangement. Both column petals are fully lip-petalized, with the column petals and tongue petals transformed into the same shape, evenly surrounding the column center, resembling three people jointly upholding a great cause. Rose-peach-red lip color spots and peach-cheek colored patterns are densely distributed on a white background, like the peerless beauty of Yang Guifei after drinking wine, dazzling and eye-catching. Its leaves are upright and reach upward, slanting at an angle, about 1 cm wide and about 40 cm tall. The central leaf of this plant displays purple-red crystal color spots or stripes, like a rainbow from the sky inlaid upon the central leaf, forming a natural special anti-counterfeiting mark.

     This spring sword stamen butterfly treasure, Taoyuan Sanyijie, was collected on December 12, 1992, by Yang Fuhua, a villager from Laodong Township in Mabian County, in the Mabian mountain area, and sold to Xie Zhaohua for 2 yuan. Xu Hong purchased a weak single seedling from Xie Zhaohua for 5 yuan in 1993 and carefully cultivated it. On April 28, 1996, it was sold to local orchid enthusiast Zhou Zhaoyan for 60,000 yuan. From May 6, 1997, to November 13, 1998, Wang Yuanxiu, an orchid enthusiast from Dujiangyan City, purchased it from Zhou Zhaoyan in two transactions totaling 390,000 yuan and named it Taoyuan Sanyijie. Under Wang Yuanxiu's care, the plant bloomed for the fourth time during the 1999 Spring Festival, attracting many notable figures from the Bashu orchid world who competed to admire it and praised it endlessly. On March 10, it won a gold award at the 9th China Orchid Exposition in Wuxi. People from Sichuan have historically favored and appreciated spring sword orchids because they have many flowers, large blooms, vivid colors, and are tall and spectacular, giving a noble and majestic, festive and harmonious feeling. The appearance of this new stamen butterfly variety, Taoyuan Sanyijie, has added great joy to our Sichuan orchid high-grade butterfly flower category. It has a dignified flower appearance, outstanding flower color, and is appreciated for both flowers and leaves - truly a treasure among treasures, rarely encountered in a thousand years.
