The arrival of the strongest cold wave has not only brought much inconvenience to citizens' daily lives, but has also had a considerable impact on the growth of crops. Recently, reporters visiting Huiyang District, Huidong County, and Boluo County saw villagers taking anti-freeze measures to protect crops from the cold.

In Lianghua Town, Huidong County, veteran vegetable farmer Old Li built a good house for the more than two thousand kilograms of winter melons he had harvested. “I heard the temperature would be very low these past few days, and I still have a lot of winter melons that haven't been sold, so I was very afraid they would freeze, and I quickly built them simple little houses to protect them from the cold.” Old Li said.

In Pingtan Town, Huiyang District, villager Sister Zhang was busy putting up plastic film for young seedlings. “The weather forecast says there will be low temperatures not seen in several years. These seedlings were all planted not long ago, and some have only just sprouted, so they are very afraid of low-temperature weather. I came to the field early in the morning to keep them warm.”

In Duozhu Town, Huidong County, villager Old Li put winter clothes on the papayas in front of and behind his house. Papayas are very afraid of the cold, and without protection from the cold they will freeze to death, so early in the morning he found many woven bags to cover these papayas.

At Birun Farm in Xiqun Village, Henghe Town, Boluo County, papaya trees were laden with fruit and growing vigorously. Workers hurried to pick the papayas whose skins had begun to turn yellow, so they would not be damaged by the cold wave.
