Gaishi Mei, also known as Rong Mei, Cymbidium ensifolium plum petal

The first variety among Sichuan's four-season orchids to bloom with a true standard plum petal, medium-to-large flower, neat and imposing. Its appearance excited Chengdu's orchid circles for many years, and orchid enthusiasts affectionately called it "The First Plum of Rongcheng." Even now, its status among four-season orchid plum petals remains very high. Medium-to-large flower, neat and imposing. It produces 2~6 flowers, dark green, with rounded plum petals; the outer petals have short feet and round tips, tightly edged and curving inward, thick and broad, with separated semi-hard column petals, and a round ruyi tongue that spreads without drooping. The flower holds well, and when the flower remains open for a long time, the side petals show 1/3~1/2 butterfly transformation. The flower quality is similar to that of Cymbidium faberi 'Guanding.' It won a gold award at the 2005 Shanghai Orchid Expo and a gold award at the 2006 Qingshen Orchid Show. It is one of the rare treasures among today's four-season orchid plum petals.
