Detailed introduction to the Cymbidium sinense cultivar Minnan Damei
Cymbidium sinense Minnan Damei
Cymbidium sinense, plum petal type, a famous cultivar.
According to records, Minnan Damei was selected in 1995 from wild-collected orchids in Nanjing, Fujian, and was registered in March 2002 as orchid cultivar No. 104 of the China Orchid Society. The registrants were three orchid enthusiasts from Nanjing, Fujian: Liu Zhenlong, Liu Yalin, and Li Xinzhi. There has long been considerable controversy over whether the two names "Minnan Damei" and "Lingnan Damei" refer to the same cultivar. Quite a few orchid enthusiasts insist that these two flowers are two different cultivars, with differences in the petals and lip, in the spacing of the flower buds along the scape, and in the color of the flowers and the flower stem. In the spirit of a scientific approach, no conclusion is drawn here.
Characteristics: The main petal of Minnan Damei has a tip that curls slightly inward, and the side petals form a straight, shoulder-like, half-embracing shape. The flower flesh is thick and brightly colored. The column petals are of the silkworm-moth type, golden yellow on the inner side and mutually embracing and paired. The lip center is golden flower colored with small red spots, and the flower shape is very imposing. It has a sense of strength and beauty. The color of the main and side petals is deep red and purplish red, the flower colors are distinct, the inflorescence is just right, and the spacing between individual flowers is moderate. It is a representative cultivar of upright, vigorous bearing. It has won the first gold medal prize many times in exhibitions. Its posture is elegant, calm, and natural, appearing extremely noble, and it is truly a top-grade orchid.
