One account says it was selected by Deng Ke of Hangzhou, another says it was discovered in Ningbo. The leaves are slanted and upright, thick in texture, with long pointed tips. The leaf color is dark green, without gloss. The bud sheaths are purplish red with green. The three outer petals of the flower are long ovate, with tightly rolled edges, thick texture, and narrowed bases; the petals bear vein patterns, and the shoulders are level. The column is scoop-shaped (ear-digging scoop), with a small round lip; the purplish red spots on the lip are vivid.
"Selected in Ningbo, Zhejiang in the early years of the Republic of China. The three outer petals have round tips, long stalks and finely narrowed bases; the petals bear vein patterns, are separated at the base, and have a small round lip. The bud sheaths hugging the flower are especially broad and large. The old leaves are slanted and upright, and the leaf color is dark green, without gloss. One of the most widely circulated cultivars of Cymbidium goeringii (Spring Orchid), and highly regarded by the Japanese orchid community."
