Typically, the leaves are about 30 cm long and about 1.5 cm wide, with a flat leaf shape, tapering pointed leaf tips, medium hardness of the midrib, relatively shallow leaf grooves, average leaf texture, and fine dense serrations along the leaf margins. In strong plants, the leaf posture is mid-drooping; in weak plants, the leaf posture is dew-receiving, cupped upward and slanting upright. The leaf buds are purplish red, with evenly and softly distributed blush coloring on the bud sheaths. The flower buds are initially light red, and as the flower buds elongate, the color gradually fades away, until at the small bract stage, both flowers and stems are jade-green, without a trace of mixed color. The flowers open as tree-form forked flowers, with many petals, no lip and no column, and slender flower stalks; each flower can continue opening and growing, and strong plants can even produce additional small flowers from the bracts of each flower. The flower stems grow taller as they open, and the petals multiply as they open, with a rich fragrance; strong plants produce large flowers, and viewing them gives a sense of overwhelming beauty. This flower blooms easily and grows easily, with high cost-effectiveness. The flower form of Cuiyu Mudan is similar to that of Baodao Jinlong and Qianshou Guanyin, but the biggest difference is that the flower colors of Jinlong and Guanyin are dark and mixed, not very pleasing to the eye, while the flowers of Cuiyu Mudan are green-white, appearing jade-like, with pure petal color, only slightly red-threaded at the very tips of the flowers, and a rich fragrance. Judging by its flower color, among the tree-form forked flowers in Chinese cymbidium orchids, none can surpass it.

Cuiyu Mudan There is also a story about Cuiyu Mudan that local orchid enthusiasts enjoy recounting. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the orchid craze rose locally, and many orchid enthusiasts delighted endlessly in selecting and gambling on flowers; Mr. Jiang Wanquan was one of them. Jiang Wanquan was generous by nature and had a certain amount of financial strength, making him a buyer whom orchid dealers and orchid farmers competed to supply. However, because his ability to appraise flowers was not high, he paid quite a lot in tuition. In the summer of 1992, an orchid dealer brought a flower to the home of an orchid enthusiast surnamed Wang for a transaction, but that enthusiast happened to be out. The dealer waited until noon and still did not see the person return home. In disappointment, he then brought the flower to Jiang's home. Jiang Wanquan was washing rice to cook when he saw the flower, which looked like scallion flowers and was jade-green in color. He was so excited that he stopped cooking and hurriedly negotiated the price with the orchid dealer, concluding the deal for more than 1,000 yuan. When the orchid enthusiast who had not been at home returned and saw this flower, he was so angry that he sighed to the sky, blaming his flower luck for being inferior to others'. After Jiang obtained this flower, he cared for it meticulously, and his flower luck gradually improved. At every orchid exhibition, this flower would bloom, and in addition to winning awards, he also introduced a small number of plants to local orchid enthusiasts at a price of more than 10,000 yuan per seedling. By 2000, when our district held a summer orchid exhibition, Mr. Jiang's strongest pot of Cuiyu opened on schedule. At the exhibition site, 15 seedlings, two flower spikes, and more than 100 petals gave off an incomparable delicate fragrance, making Mr. Chen Shaomin, who was present, unable to put it down, so he bought it for 150,000 yuan. After Jiang Wanquan sold the plants, he hosted a banquet for orchid enthusiasts for three days, which became a much-told tale among local orchid enthusiasts.
