Yanzhi He (Rouge Lotus), a variety of Cymbidium tortisepalum Fukiense, is named for its color, which resembles rouge staining, and its lotus-shaped petals. It was initially called Lotus-type Pale Pink Cymbidium tortisepalum Fukiense. It is produced in the secluded valleys of the Three Parallel Rivers region of the Jinsha River, Lancang River, and Nujiang River in northwestern Yunnan. Discovered in the spring of 2001, the Dali orchid expert Huang Guisheng purchased it back from the production area at a high price for introduction and cultivation. A clump of 4 seedlings is a rare variety among orchids. The flower color of orchids can be clearly described in one phrase: white is white, red is red, yellow is yellow, green is green, and variegated is variegated. A small number of orchids have blended hues that are difficult to describe in one phrase, appearing clear at a glance but ambiguous upon closer look, displaying a kind of color-changing beauty. This is occasionally seen among orchids. The leaves are slender and long, with deep leaf grooves, hard veins, and slanting, curved growth. The young shoots emerge with variegated white color and densely packed fine red dots. It blooms in early spring, with 2 to 3 flowers per scape. Mostly 2 flowers. Lotus-shaped petals with fringed tips. The petals are wide at the front and narrow at the back, slightly red, as if lightly powdered, seeming present yet absent. The inner and outer sides of the petals have a uniform tone, with pale red striations arranged in a balanced density. The lip is broad and round. The base of the petals is pale white-red, and the flower stalk is soft red. The entire stalk is one color. The whole flower resembles a beauty glancing sideways, drawing one to look back. The market trading price is high.
