In 1980, it was selected by Zhu Erqi of Tangdi, Shaoxing, Zhejiang (this may be a story made up by later generations), and named "Nianqi Mei," also called "Ye Mei" by some. The new shoots are bright red, and the newly emerged young leaves have heavy white tips. The leaves are 30cm long and 0.8-1cm wide, with blunt leaf tips, thick and substantial leaf texture, and a "V"-shaped leaf groove on the surface. The leaf posture is semi-pendant, with some twisted leaves among them. The flower scape is upright, reaching a height of 15cn, and the bracts are purplish-red edged with green. The three outer petals appear broad, with the main petal forming an upward-covering shape, majestic in bearing. The two lateral sepals have constricted bases and flared angles, forming a level shoulder. The petals are of the soft silkworm-moth type, round and smooth, with the five petals separated. The lip is a large round tongue, with red patches on the tongue surface, and the flower color is tender green and semi-transparent. The flowering period is especially long, remaining undeformed for over 30 days in bloom, but unfortunately it does not propagate quickly.
"Nianqi" - its pinyin is "nian qi," which is pronounced the same as "nian qi" (read as nian qi). Since few people recognize the character "nian" in "nianqi" nowadays, some people write "nianqi" as "nianqi" to make it easier for everyone to read it aloud.
What does "nianqi" mean? The character "nian" means "twenty," so "nianqi" means "twenty-seven."
"Nianqi" is the pronunciation of "nianqi."
"Twenty-seven" or "two-seven" is the explanation of "nianqi."
The various names currently circulating, such as "Nianqi Mei," "Nianqi Mei," "Erqi Mei," and "Ershiqi Mei," are actually all one and the same thing. The correct name for this flower is: Nianqi Mei.
