Introduction and Characteristics of the Chunlan 'Wushuang Mei' Variety

Plum-petal type, a traditional famous variety. History: a new variety obtained by Xu Zilin of Shanghai in the 5th year of the Republic of China. When it spread to Wuxi, it was renamed 'Efeng Mei'.

Selected by Xu Zilin of Shanghai in 1916. When it spread to Wuxi, it was renamed 'Efeng Mei'. Leaf buds are purplish red, leaves can reach 30cm long and 1.2cm wide, leaf posture semi-drooping, leaf groove shallow, leaf tip blunt, leaf texture thick and hard, leaf color green and glossy, leaf stalk tightly constricted. Flower buds are reddish purple, the small sheath is thick and edged with green markings, the bud bracts have thick purple veins running through to the tip. The flower scape is slightly thick, green with a purplish red blush, the stem nodes purplish red, about 10cm tall. The three outer petals are long ovate, with a tight edge that is not very pronounced. The two side petals drift slightly, soft silkworm-moth holding, ru yi tongue. The scape is tall, the leaf posture semi-drooping.

Characteristics: leaf buds are purplish red, leaves can reach 30cm long and 1.2cm wide, leaf posture semi-drooping, leaf groove shallow, leaf tip blunt, leaf texture thick and hard, leaf color green and glossy, leaf stalk tightly constricted. Flower buds are reddish purple, the small sheath is thick and edged with green markings, the bud bracts have thick purple veins running through to the tip. The flower scape is slightly thick, green with a purplish red blush, the stem nodes purplish red, about 10cm tall. The three outer petals are long ovate, with a fine constricted base, the petal tips of the three petals slightly upturned, the main petal held high and upright, the flower color rather dark, with a hidden red blush, and red veins clearly visible on the back of the petals. The five petals are set in separate sockets, soft silkworm-moth hooded holding, small ru yi tongue, and the flower's central structure is extremely well formed.
