Biyang County in Henan Approved as a National-Level Quality and Safety Demonstration Zone for Exported Edible Fungi
The reporter recently learned from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine: after document review and on-site assessment by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Biyang County in Henan was approved as a national-level quality and safety demonstration zone for exported food and agricultural products (edible fungi).
In recent years, the Biyang County Party Committee and County Government, based on geographical, resource and technological advantages, formulated four major strategies: “build the county on ecology, enrich the county with distinctive features, strengthen the county through industry, and invigorate the county through science and education”, and established edible fungi production as a characteristic pillar industry to accelerate county economic development and increase farmers' income. At the same time, in accordance with the laws and regulations of China and the importing countries, and in light of Biyang's actual conditions, the county successively formulated the Biyang County Operating Regulations for the Cultivation Technology of Shiitake Mushroom Sticks Exported to South Korea, the Biyang County Operating Regulations for the Production Technology of Edible Fungi Spawn, the Biyang County Operating Regulations for the Processing Technology of Exported Dried Shiitake Mushrooms, and the Biyang Huagu Production Standards, among other quality and safety production technical requirements and operating regulations for exported edible fungi products, and publicized, trained on and implemented them throughout the county. By the end of 2015, the county planted more than 200 million bags of edible fungi annually, produced more than 300,000 tons of fresh mushrooms annually, had an annual output value of 3.4 billion yuan, and achieved export earnings exceeding 30 million US dollars. Biyang County was rated as one of the top ten major production base counties in China's edible fungi industry and a major edible fungi county in Henan Province.
Not long ago, the assessment and acceptance team for the national-level quality and safety demonstration zone for exported food and agricultural products came to Biyang County. Through holding meetings, listening to work reports, consulting documents and archives, and surveying edible fungi growers, the team unanimously concluded that Biyang County's edible fungi production is large in scale and high in efficiency, with standardized production procedures; in areas such as the control of chemical inputs, epidemic and disease prevention and control, and dynamic environmental monitoring and governance, it strictly operates in accordance with requirements, and its integrity system is complete; all the above aspects meet national standards.
