Wang Xiaoshang is an old variety of the Narcissus-type (Shuixian) group. It is recorded in Shen Yuanru's book "Orchids", and in Wang Shuping's book "Fifty Years of Orchid Growing Experience" it is rated as a first-class Narcissus-type variety without any flaws. It is a top-grade Narcissus-type variety: the scape is tall, the flower is large, and its structure is excellent. The large red patch on the lip is very eye-catching, and its charm is excellent. The leaf tips are blunt, and the two lateral petals curve forward and embrace like soup spoons.
Also known as Xiaoshang Xian. The history of its selection and breeding is unknown. The three outer petals are round-tipped, with long feet and a finely tapered base, separated into segments, with level shoulders and a Liu Hai (bang fringe) tongue. The flower is pretty and lovely, and the old leaves are semi-pendant in shape. The leaf color is dark green, and the leaf tips are blunt. It is currently rather rare on the market.

The Chunlan (Cymbidium goeringii) "Wang Xiaoshang" was formerly called "Wang Zhangshang", also known as "Wang Xiaoshang", and had another name, "Xiaoshang Xian". During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, it was selected by Wang Jixiang in the mountainous area of Fenghua, Zhejiang, and later sold to the Ningbo orchid-growing senior Lin Taihe. Lin Taihe named this orchid "Wang Xiaoshang" based on Wang Jixiang's appearance (bald head). The Shen father and son recorded this variety in "Orchids". Teacher Mou Anxiang gave a detailed record in "Lan Hui Zong Heng"; it is a valuable first-generation Chunlan Narcissus-type braid variety in our country. The senior old orchid grower Wang Shuping, in "Talks on Fifty Years of Experience", was especially devoted to it and considered it a first-class orchid without any flaws. As for the origin of the Wang Xiaoshang variety, it was re-exported back to China from Japan, and it was rarely seen in China in the early period. In March 2001, Shen Xuebao, then director of the orchid room at the Shanghai Botanical Garden, first introduced it from Japan. At that time, of the eight plants, Zhang Yimin, former president of the Nantong Orchid Association, took back four plants, and the other four were taken by Zhu Jianping of Yuyao, Zhejiang. It should be said that it did not circulate much in China.
