Chunlan 'Jiangnan Diyi Xian' and 'Lizhu Diyi Xian': Pictures, Prices and Characteristics

Lizhu Diyi Xian, also known as "Jiangnan Diyi Xian", originated in 1986 from Guiwo Mountain in Jiangxi and was selected and bred by Ye Hualiang of Lizhu, Shaoxing. This variety has arching, drooping leaves that can reach 40cm in length and 0.8cm in width; the plant form is spreading and arching, the leaf color is dark green without gloss, the texture is slightly thin with good elasticity, the leaf surface has a V-shaped groove and is slightly flat near the leaf tip, the leaf base narrows finely, the upper half toward the leaf tip widens, the leaf tip is bluntly pointed, and the leaf margin serrations are coarse. A single plant usually has about 5 leaves, the pseudobulb is round and large, the leaf sheath is tall with a soft tip, and the new shoot sheath is purple-green, with the just-emerged shoot tip bearing purple coloration. The flower bud is light purple-green overlaid with purple-red veins extending all the way to the top; the bracts turn green at the layered tips and along the upper two edges, as if edged with a deep green claw pattern. The scape is level with or above the foliage; the uppermost section of the flower stem is green, sometimes tinged with a little purple-red. The three outer petals have constricted bases and long stalks, with level shoulders and pointed tips; the main petal stands upright, the petals are deeply cupped and semi-hard, the tongue is white and rolled, with bright round red blotches on the tongue. This flower is very distinctive: the tips of most of the three outer petals can show a pale white claw pattern (a characteristic unique to this variety), echoing the white edges of the petals. The flower form is grand and spectacular.
