Green vegetable planting proves successful: Xishui County, Guizhou implements the Ten-Thousand-Yuan Field demonstration project

In 2015, in order to advance the 100,000-mu “Ten-Thousand-Yuan Field” project, explore new models for increasing production and income, and raise the income of the broad masses of farmers, the Fruit and Vegetable Station of the Xishui County Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau carried out demonstration construction of “Ten-Thousand-Yuan Fields” among relevant households in Group 1 and Group 11 of Xiangying Village, Xingmin Town. This demonstration project ran from February 2015 to the end of January 2016, mainly implementing the “waxy corn—green vegetable—green vegetable” planting technology model.

Personnel from the county's Fruit and Vegetable Station and the Xingmin Town Agricultural Service Center conducted yield measurement and acceptance checks on the second-season green vegetables planted in Group 1 and Group 11 of Xiangying Village, Xingmin Town. The measured area was 38 sq m, the green vegetable weight was 140 kg, equivalent to a per-mu yield of 2456.25 kg; calculated at a market wholesale price of 1.6 yuan/kg, the per-mu output value was 3930 yuan.

Comprehensive calculation: the first crop was waxy corn, with seedlings raised at the end of February, transplanted in March, and harvested in July for market sale, with an average per-mu income of 3250 yuan; the second crop was green vegetables, with seedlings raised at the end of July, transplanted in early September, and harvested in mid-October, with an average per-mu income of 4200 yuan; the third crop was green vegetables, with seedlings raised in late September, transplanted in late October, and harvested at the end of December or in early to mid-January of the following year, with an average per-mu income of 3930 yuan. The total per-mu income for the whole year was 11380 yuan, exceeding the target of 10000 yuan per mu set at the beginning of the year, increasing the economic income of the broad masses and achieving the demonstration construction goal of the “Ten-Thousand-Yuan Field”.
