Plum petal, a famous variety.  Xue Jinze's posted photos show it as the first variety among Sichuan four-season orchids to bloom with a true standard plum petal. Medium to large flowers, neat and grand. Its appearance excited the Chengdu orchid world for many years, and orchid enthusiasts affectionately called it "the first plum of Rongcheng." Even now, its status among four-season orchid plum petals remains very high,
Rongmei, also known as Gaishimei. In the past, many orchid enthusiasts understood Rongmei (Gaishimei) and Yipinmei (Gaimei) to be the same variety.
It was precisely because of Gaishimei and Gaimei that many orchid enthusiasts misunderstood; both varieties are fine varieties from Sichuan. Rongmei belongs to the multi-colored plum type, while Yipinmei (Gaimei) blooms as a plain-heart type.
Characteristics: medium to large flowers, neat and grand. It produces 2~6 flowers, dark green, with rounded plum petals; the outer petals have short feet and round tips, tightly edged and inward-curling, thick and broad, with divided, semi-hard column petals, and a round ruyi tongue that spreads without drooping. The flower holds very well, and when the flower remains open for a long time, the side petals show 1/3~1/2 butterfly transformation. The flower quality resembles that of the Huilan (Cymbidium faberi) Guanding. It won a gold award at the 2005 Shanghai Orchid Expo and a gold award at the 2006 Qingshen Orchid Show, and is one of the rare treasures among today's four-season orchid plum petals.
