Zhuangyuan Mei (Baogan Hua) is one of the Cymbidium tortisepalum varieties.

Its name is "Zhuangyuan Mei" (Top Scholar Plum), yet its petal type is actually "He Ban" (Lotus Petal).

It is a representative variety in the Baogan (stem-clasping) series of Cymbidium tortisepalum native to Baoshan, which has no ovary (the flowers have no ovary and are borne directly on the flower stem). The leaves are 1 cm wide and 20-30 cm long. The tips taper to a rounded, blunt point, with the leaf apex cupping inward and slightly twisted, and the texture is fine and delicate. The plant form is lively and elegant, full of graceful vitality, revealing charm within its masculine bearing. The flower stem is 15-20 cm tall, bearing 2-3 flowers. The petals are rounded, thick and velvety, forming a plum-shaped lotus petal. The color is pink, bright and delicate. The petals clasp and cluster together, dignified and precise. A single crimson speck at the center of the lip is the finishing touch, making it appear all the more elegant and pretty.

Orchid enthusiasts in Baoshan call it Baogan Hua (stem-clasping flower); because the flowers grow in a manner similar to plum blossoms, it also has the alternative names "Baogan Mei", "Long Baozhu" (Dragon Clasping Pillar), and "Gang Shang Hua" (Flower on the Pole). Its leaves are broad and thick, standing upright like swords, dark green in color, with a fine, velvety texture. Enjoyed for both flowers and foliage, it is a top-choice variety for enthusiasts.
