It was named by Liu Zhenlong, president of the Nanjing County Orchid Association, in his book "Appreciation and Cultivation of Famous Orchid Varieties" as: Minnan Yellow Butterfly. Together with Minnan Green Butterfly, it is one of the local mountain-collected varieties known as the "Pair of Wing-to-Wing Butterflies."
