Variety Characteristics and Appreciation of Chunlan 'Qiaobaihe'
The greatest contribution of Qiaobaihe lies in establishing yet another new petal-type form: the lily petal. Before Qiaobaihe, there were few petal-type flowers of this form, and they did not attract sufficient attention. For decades, apart from the Huilan 'Duoyun', no famous variety of such form has been passed down. Therefore, in the sense of defining a new petal type...

The leaves of 'Qiaobaihe' arch and droop, rising gradually from the leaf base and then drooping, with a graceful curve. The leaves can reach 40cm in length, are slender and narrow, with the widest part of the lower leaves at 0.7cm. The leaves are emerald green and elongated, with a glutinous, moist texture and a leaf groove, good elasticity, light-colored leaf margins with extremely fine leaf serrations, tapering tips, high leaf-stalk rings, and a narrow leaf base. A single plant usually has 4---6 leaves, and the plant form is very elegant and flowing. The leaf sheaths are slender and tall, with slightly hard sheath tips, and the tips of the lower leaves do not droop. The lower part of the leaf buds is emerald green, with purplish-red speckled shading near the sheath margin and sheath tip, and the bud tip has a milky white point slightly curved inward. The flower buds are emerald green, with purplish-red markings on the upper part, and a fleshy tip at the end (purplish-red color within milky white). There is an emerald green adhering sheath, on which there are sparse deep purplish-red veins reaching the top, and sand-like shading is visible between the veins. The flower stem is slender and tall, with the uppermost node turning emerald green. The two sepals are level at the shoulders, with narrow bases and small round tips, curving and rolling backward from the middle of the petals; the two sepals curve evenly and symmetrically, each forming a semicircular arc. The main petal is broad and large, and the degree of its backward curvature is very symmetrical with the two sepals, centered without deviation. The petals are in the shape of cat-ear petals, with the two petal tips slightly turned backward, standing separately on both sides of the main petal. The upper part of each petal has a crystal patch, and within each patch there is a red dot. The large liu-hai tongue is adorned with a deep red patch, like a red butterfly resting on the tongue surface. Every part of this flower has a sense of movement, as if about to soar and fly, like gliding and soaring, its appearance following its spirit, its form a model for the world. The ingenious symmetry of the three petals conforms to people's aesthetic standard of pursuing perfection in the outer whorl of orchids.
'Qiaobaihe' is a variety that is easy to grow and easy to flower, with an extremely high flowering rate; even the mother plants of the previous year also produce flower buds. It belongs to the kind of variety where flowers are seen as soon as the plant is seen, and even weak plants will flower, so during cultivation, flower buds should be selected and retained according to whether the plant is strong or weak.
