The three outer petals of Tianyi He are short and broad, with a constricted base and flared corners; the hold petals are short, round and mussel-shell shaped, with radiating purple-red lines on the inner side of the two hold petals, while the three outer petals are basically pure green. The lip is large and round, with a neat U-shaped red spot on it. The scape is deep red and tall, and the bract sheaths commonly show a pale white-green shell color with a faint mercury-red speckled blush. The leaves are dark green, and the leaf form is mostly slanted and upright. The petal texture is slightly lacking, and the shoulders tend to drop when the flower has been open for a long time. The flower form is rather grand. Some people joke that Tianyi He is "one-day He", which is going a bit too far. The two characters "Tianyi" are not a self-proclamation of being first under heaven. Chapter 39 of the Dao De Jing says: "Heaven obtains the One and becomes clear; earth obtains the One and becomes tranquil; the spirits obtain the One and become divine; the valleys obtain the One and become full; the myriad things obtain the One and become alive; the lords and kings obtain the One and become the standard for all under heaven." "Heaven produces the One as water"; with the gentleness of water, it serves as the flower name of this cymbidium. A flower is made famous by its name, yet it does not bear the name in vain either, and that is fine!"
