The leaf buds are purple with red crystal, and the central leaf gradually develops deep butterfly transformation. The butterfly pattern consists of clustered, irregular chicken-blood-red blocks on a white background lined with emulsified white. In strong plants, as many as four butterfly leaves can appear, with red, white and green alternating like phoenix feathers, making it a typical model of butterfly-transformed leaves. The butterfly transformation of the leaves slowly fades after two months. The flowering period is from January to March, with 2-3 flowers per scape, each opening facing upward. The petal-like sepals are completely transformed into lip petals, and the three butterfly petals are symmetrical and even, with a white background and red coloration, very pretty, making it a standard three-star butterfly. This flower is a top-grade premium orchid that combines butterfly flower, leaf art, dwarf type and crystal in one.

In 2001, it was collected by mountain villagers at the border between Yunlong County and Lanping County by the Lancang River. In 2005, Datang Fengyu bloomed for the first time, and then bloomed continuously for the next three years. The flower quality improved with each blooming, and the degree of butterfly transformation became higher and higher. It also won the Special Gold Award at the 15th China (Leshan) Orchid Exposition, and has been famous ever since.
Datang Fengyu was registered on March 6, 2006, registration number: Orchid No. 0212.
