What are the characteristics of the Chunlan (Cymbidium goeringii) cultivar Wanjun Mei?

In the spring of 1997 it was collected in Xiaotian, Shucheng County, Anhui. It was selected and named (Wanjun Mei) by Hefei orchid enthusiast Wang Jun, and entered in the 1997 Six Provinces and One Municipality of East China Orchid Exhibition, where Wanjun Mei stood out and won the Special Gold Award in one stroke. In 2012, at the 8th Anhui Orchid Expo, it once again won the honor of Special Gold Award, and its fame spread far and wide for a time.

       The leaves of Wanjun Mei are messy in posture, boldly unrestrained, a mix of slanting and drooping, with a glutinous soft leaf texture that tends to scorch at the tips. It likes shade; strong light easily scorches the leaf surface. The leaf groove is shallow, the leaf surface is flat and lacks gloss, the leaf width is 0.7--1 cm, and the length is 25--30 cm. It blooms sparingly; with few shoots it is not easy for it to produce flowers.

      The flower bud is water-red, with green color at the pointed tip, and the ovary bract is pale green with purple veins. The flower stalk is slender, the scape is medium, about a dozen cm in height, with the five petals in separate segments, silkworm-moth pollinia, a Liu Hai tongue, and the tongue surface dotted with red spots or pinzi-shaped spots. The three outer petals have a contracted base and flared corners, the central palace is round and neat, the flower color is emerald green, the petals are thick and solid with tightly rolled edges and a strong embracing curve, and the fragrance is mellow and pure. It is a fine cultivar selected and bred in Anhui in recent years.
