Introduction and Appreciation of the Jianlan 'Liuyanghe' Variety
The new lotus-petal variety 'Liuyanghe', bred by Mr. Liu Jielong, won the gold award at the 2006 Leshan Four-Season Orchid Expo. This new lotus variety has a medium-dwarf plant type, thick-textured leaves, and blooms with a true-standard green-shelled lotus petal; the three outer petals are short and round, wide and thick, with tightly rolled edges and obvious root contraction and corner flare. It is the most standard lotus petal among the four-season orchids seen so far, belonging to the large-flowered lotus-petal type; it remains unchanged in shape from full bloom to withering, has a rich fragrance, and reblooms for many years with great stability. Strong plants can grow another branched flower stalk on the flower stem, so local orchid growers call it "Branched Lotus".
