Guohun Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium) Variety Introduction and Care Tips
From the time the new shoots emerge until they mature into adult plants, the pseudobulbs are dark red. It is the best red-pigmented variety among Jianlan orchids, with a velvety flower lip and very red coloration. Currently the quantity is very small, and it once won a gold award at an orchid exhibition.
A fine color-flower variety of Four Seasons Orchid produced in Sichuan. This variety is quite legendary. It is said that this flower also originates from Ya'an and was collected from the mountains one year earlier than Junhe. However, this flower is extremely wild in nature, and after so many years, its quantity is not even one ten-thousandth that of Junhe! The old plants of this flower tend to have scorched leaf tips, and the propagation rate is not high. The strongest plants I have seen are probably in Xinjin, where it is very rare to see 4 leaves, and plant height rarely exceeds 30 cm! Therefore, the current price of this flower is also quite high!
The leaf material of Guohun is medium-soft and drooping, the leaves are broad, thick, and strong, the leaf color is dark green, there is a slight "dragon raising its head," and the leaf tips gradually taper! The flowers mostly rise above the leaves, the flowers have a lotus-type form, the red coloration on the three outer sepals spreads to about half of the outer petals, the bases of the two petals carry red coloration, and the tongue is covered with red velvet! The bloom form is stable, the contrast is strong, the flowers and leaves are harmoniously matched, and the flower color is brilliant and eye-catching, making it very lovable! The biggest shortcoming of this flower is that the inflorescence is not good!
