In 1983, Han Zhibing of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, selected it at the Meideng Gaoqiao flower market; it had been dug up by a mountain family in Fuyang. The foliage of Wen Yi is very distinctive, not tall and large; even when the new growths have matured, you can still see sparkling white tips at the leaf ends. The best growing environment is a fairly humid orchid house, otherwise the old growths tend to shrink back; once established, the germination rate is fairly good.
