Tree-type unusual flower, medium-long leaves, leaf blades upright, leaf tips drooping, pseudobulbs very large, 3--4 leaves per stem; multi-petaled flower, flower stalk very long, bracts 5--12, at first opening 2--4 small flowers borne on a single flower stalk, after fully blooming it produces twenty-plus petals and column, several pouches, column tip incomplete, flowering period up to two months, and after the flowers fade they still do not drop; in the size of its flower form and the length of its flowering period, it has no equal among all Cymbidium ensifolium, and can be called the king of unusual Cymbidium ensifolium flowers (this is how it is boasted about all over the internet).
In 1988 it was discovered and selected in Dongshi, Taichung County, Taiwan, China by Mr. Zhan Fangxiong; originally named "Mudan" (Peony), after the Cymbidium ensifolium Association was established it was formally registered as "Bao Dao Jin Long", and because its unusual flower resembles the "Da Tun Qi Lin" or "Guo Xiang Mu Dan" of the Cymbidium sinense, it is also commonly called "Si Ji Da Tun" or "Si Ji Guo Xiang".
It is one of the three great unusual flowers of Taiwan, China's Cymbidium ensifolium.
