Characteristics of the Cymbidium goeringii variety Tuanjie He

Cymbidium goeringii Tuanjie He     According to the "Yue Lan Xin Pu" (New Manual of Yue Orchids), Tuanjie He: originated in Kuaiji Mountain, Shaoxing, Zhejiang, discovered in 1991 by a person surnamed Qian in Sanshe Village, Lizhu Town, and cultivated by Jin Dingxian.

Having seen the actual flowers of Tuanjie He, the flowers stand tall above the foliage, blooming among relatively short, arching, drooping leaves, giving a sense of graceful elegance. It has a charm all its own. Tuanjie He is tender green in color, with a rounded center, outer petals with cupped tips, petals slightly long, with contracted bases, and inconspicuous shoulder angles. The stem is tall and upright, and the bud sheaths are purplish red. It feels like a variety with a flavor all its own, a lotus-type flower of an unconventional style.

Why it was named "Tuanjie He" (Unity Lotus) is still unknown.

Tuanjie He reminded me of another flower photo I once saw, labeled "Shengzhou He". I vaguely remember this flower was published in the magazine "Lan Hui". I once wondered why it had to be called a "lotus". It is not a lotus at all! Yet the flower's charm and distinctive form left me unable to forget it. Haunted by it, I think of this flower time and again, but alas, I have never seen it again since, and I do not know how it blooms on reflowering. Perhaps it has never been able to bloom like that again! So obsessed with flowers, beyond cure!

Beauty always captivates a person's heart in an instant! Once captivated, it is hard to forget!
