Sanxi He (Zixi He) Cymbidium lianpan Variety Introduction
Zixi He, also known as Sanxi He, is a medium-sized plant, and its flowers stand above the leaves. Its opening and closing are a bit better than those of He Zhi Guan, and its color is relatively stable. Its stem strength is slightly weaker.
In the spring of 1992, it was selected and bred by Mr. Song, an orchid grower in Baoshan, Yunnan.
Characteristics: Zixi He is a broad-leaved Cymbidium lianpan, a medium-sized plant, with leaves up to 1.2 cm wide and 30-40 cm long. The plant type of this variety differs greatly from ordinary Cymbidium lianpan: the leaf texture is relatively hard, the leaf surface is somewhat leathery and veined, and sometimes the leaf edges even show a "lotus-leaf edge"; the leaf sheaths are rounder and tighter than those of ordinary plants, but not as tight and round as those of He Zhi Guan, and the plant is also somewhat shorter. The overall plant type is very compact and neat, without the scattered form common in Cymbidium lianpan.
Zixi He has a true lotus-petal flower form. One scape bears 2-3 flowers; the flowers are large and immediately eye-catching. The length-to-width ratio of the three outer petals is maintained at about 1:1.2, with a good base constriction and beautiful rounded tips, and the petals are thick and fleshy. The large round lip curls slightly backward, the clam-shell-shaped sepals are properly formed, and the center of the flower is round and dignified, plain and calm. The base color of the petals is clean white, and several purplish-red petal veins are clearly and evenly distributed, setting off a purplish-red tone within the white petal color.
