When Chinese people appreciate orchids, most stop at petal form, and few grasp the inner spirit. Petal-form appreciation has lasted for many years and is deeply rooted in people's hearts. Yet the spirit embodied by petal form and the humanistic meaning it conveys are seldom spoken of. This phenomenon is precisely a manifestation of contemporary orchid culture moving toward mass culture. Mass culture brings with it shallow, material, money-driven ideals. This inevitably leads to a crisis of faith and a moral crisis. Orchid culture is, after all, a classical culture with several thousand years of tradition, and the crisis of this cultural value being destroyed is already very serious. And the only thing that can save the soul is art. To appreciate orchid culture from an artistic angle will elevate one's realm of life and rebuild cultural classics.

In this group of plain-hearted Cymbidium goeringii, 'Haoyue Hesu', the tips of the three outer petals curl up, and the contraction and expansion are not very pronounced, so it should be a lotus form. Yet what makes it truly remarkable is that its center is round and well-proportioned; this kind of center best embodies the idea of "central harmony" in traditional Confucian aesthetics. The center is the great root of all things under heaven; harmony is the great way shared by all under heaven. In this group of plain-hearted Cymbidium goeringii, the beauty of the center is beyond compare. The circle formed by the petals and the lip is almost a complete round shape. Moreover, the flower color is emerald green, and the lip's surface is snow-white, elegant and clean, just like a bright full moon traversing the sky. It has both the harmonious beauty of Confucian "moderation and roundness" and the realization of Daoist "purity and non-action," along with the Zen contemplation of Buddhist "emptiness, purity, and clarity."

'Haoyue Hesu' is beautiful for its light elegance, plain purity, round harmony, and simplicity, yet its realm is vast and far-reaching. Just as Dongpo said: Being still, one therefore understands all movement; being empty, one therefore receives ten thousand realms. -------Yang Dahua
