The "Xinhe" among the basic lotus-form lotus-petal types of Yunnan orchids was renamed by Zhejiang orchid enthusiasts, with the registered name "Hongta Baoding",A registered famous flower of the Wenshan Cymbidium goeringii lotus petal and lotus-form petal types in the Yuxi region; in 2004 it was selected, named and officially registered by Mr. Deng Huaijun, president of the Yuxi Municipal Orchid Association. The flowers bloom with a strong fragrance; weak plants mostly produce a single flower, while strong plants of the variety easily produce double flowers, and occasionally three flowers. Due to differences in cultivation environment and the strength of the plants from year to year, it often blooms variably as normal lotus-form petals or standard lotus-petal flowers, and also often blooms as a multi-petal strange flower (the top flower of a double bloom being strange). It was originally a wild Cymbidium goeringii collected in Wenshan in early years; as a red-flowered lotus-form lotus-petal type among Yunnan orchids, this flower is prized for its small and highly variable leaf form, sometimes upright and sometimes semi-upright. Under regular orchid-house cultivation it grows 16-25CM, with a width of 0.6-0.9CM; a particularly strong plant can reach 7 leaves per single growth including the basal leaves. The flowers easily rise above the foliage, and its color, fragrance and charm are excellent, earning the affection and recognition of orchid enthusiasts nationwide. As a basic red-flowered lotus-form lotus-petal type among wild Cymbidium goeringii, it is also an economical entry-level lotus-petal flower. According to preliminary statistics, the total stock in the Yuxi region is currently less than 100 plants.

Expert Comments: This variety is selected from the native Cymbidium goeringii species of Wenshan, Yunnan. It is a lotus-form flower with an extra pouch, and the petal tips are convex-pointed. The flower is pink with red veins, often with two flowers per scape, and the upper flower often has 1 to 2 extra petals. The flower is delicately fragrant and the traits are stable. Registration approved.
