Sanyuanmei is a newly collected variety of Cymbidium tortisepalum, originally produced in Weixi County within the Three Parallel Rivers region of western Yunnan Province, and later selected, cultivated and promoted by Mr. Jiang Li, owner of Suxinyuan in Dali, and Mr. Liu Dianwei, owner of Yougu Lanting. This orchid has 6-7 leaves, leaf length 30-40 cm, leaf width about 0.6 cm, deep leaf grooves, leaf tips with crystal, and small shoots that emerge red. The flower form is upright, the three outer petals are broad, with a fine base, widening toward the middle, and angled at the front end; the petal edges are tightly rolled like a spoon. The main petal leans forward, the side petals embrace inward, the substance is very good, and the flower holds well. The coloring is elegant and pretty, with bicolor plus crystal edging. The column petals are masculinized, moderately so, with hard hoods embracing separately, and the front end of the dragon-swallowing tongue turns upward, is hard in texture, and the tongue edge splits into irregular serrations; the tongue surface is concave and slightly hooded, like the tongue shape of a "dragon" in mythology. The whole flower's scape rises above the leaves, with a spirited and elevated charm. The flower holds stably, the flower form is upright, and it is fragrant. Appreciating this flower is endlessly fascinating, with delightful charm, drawing praise from many, and it is an excellent variety among the plum-petal flowers of Cymbidium tortisepalum.
