Huzhou No. 1 Mei, also known as Yimei. In the spring of 1911 (during the Republic of China period), it was selected and named by Mr. Yao Zuotian of Huzhou in Huzhou, Zhejiang. The new buds of this flower are purplish-red; the leaves are slanted and upright, medium-long and broad, with slightly inward-rolled leaf margins and shallow pits; the leaf stalks are tightly contracted, dark green, very glossy, thick and hard in texture, and elastic. When it blooms, the flowers and leaves set each other off most elegantly...
A famous variety at the 2001 Guiyang National Orchid Exhibition.
Broad and long leaves, with a semi-pendant leaf posture. The three outer petals are extremely short and round, with tightly rolled edges, joined at the base into a round form; the central ridge is brownish-red; the hard pouch is fully closed as the column; and there is a small ru-yi tongue. The flower shape is rounded and harmonious, and the form is plump and full, making it a precious variety of the lamp-wick mei-petal type.
