A Thousand Years of Waiting for This Moment: The New Cymbidium Lianpan Variety "Jinsha Hedin"
When orchid enthusiasts discuss the petal-form flowers of Cymbidium Lianpan, they believe that due to its own botanical characteristics, Cymbidium Lianpan cannot produce a true lotus-petal form. The author considers this view one-sided. This year, another new variety from the local area following Jinsha Shuju, "Jinsha Hedin," proves this point.
Following "Jinsha Shuju," in "Magical Huili," separated from Wangjiang in Yunnan, another heavenly treasure was discovered: "Jinsha Hedin." This flower was collected in 2004 at the same time as "Jinsha Shuju," collected in bloom, with a total of 4 or 5 plants. It is a pure Cymbidium Lianpan, with leaves over 30 cm tall, leaf tips slightly twisted, and leaf texture thick and supple, showing a straight dragon dewatered appearance. This year, on the second day of the Chinese New Year, it bloomed for the second time. Watered on the third day and measured on the seventh day, the petal length-to-width ratio is: 1.48CM:1.46CM. The three sepals (outer three petals) are broad and large, with narrowed bases and cupped tips. The petals (lip petals) and the mid-lobe of the lip are short, round, broad, and shaped like mussel-shell cupped petals. The petals are thick and supple in texture (twice that of ordinary Cymbidium Lianpan flowers), belonging to fully fleshy petals. The column is small, flat, and rounded, and the lip (tongue) is large, a typical large round dragon-swallowing tongue. It has a subtle fragrance that penetrates the heart and lungs, with a long-lasting scent, exceptionally fragrant. The entire flower remains in an embracing posture until it falls, with excellent flower retention.
The world is full of wonders, and the emergence of "Jinsha Hedin" from Huili County has precisely filled this gap. From now on, it will change the views and opinions of the world, and further confirms a famous saying by the leading figure of the orchid world, Teacher Wu Yingxiang: Cymbidium Lianpan is a crown in the orchid kingdom.
