Introduction to the Qiuzi Huilan (Cymbidium) Variety and Key Care Points

A lost variety. The best among the plum-form narcissus-flowered orchids, praised as the finest of green flowers, with well-proportioned features, more compact, round and thick than other varieties. It was introduced by Chen Qiutao, a timber merchant from Taicang. In the spring of the Dingyi year, he brought the flowers to Hehe and traded them with Luo Xin'ge for seven pots of Dayipin leaves, and thus this fine variety came to Hehe. Unexpectedly, before the flowers could bloom beautifully, they met with repeated calamities. An old poem by Banqiao says: "And now, in the end, there is no end to it..." This truly reads like a prophetic verse! It is unknown whether this flower still survives in Taicang. I have loved this variety all my life, and had a friend paint it by the south window of the Lanzhao Hall.
