Chinese orchids have always emphasized the selection of plain flowers. Plain flowers have the refined and elegant temperament of a gentleman, matching the traditional Eastern cultural idea that "plainness is precious." They are mellow, simple, and appreciated by literati and scholars through the ages, and are also fine orchid varieties pursued by modern orchid growers. Gaopinsu, meanwhile, is a new plain-centered variation of Cymbidium lianpan, with flower scapes rising above the leaves, tender white, slender yet upright, petals white as jade, the column petals closed together, the lip broad and full, and the flowers delicately fragrant; color, fragrance, appearance, and charm are all excellent. Undoubtedly, it is an outstanding variety among high-grade orchid lines. As more people seek plain flowers, plain flowers are treasured; above the treasures, there is still Gaopinsu.

Gaopinsu is the abbreviation of high-grade plain Cymbidium lianpan, and is a lotus-petal-type plain-flower variety of Cymbidium lianpan. The whole flower of Gaopinsu is plain and clean, pure white throughout, fresh and elegantly understated, with flower scapes rising above the leaves, the flowers covering the leaves, hence the name. Its flower appearance, petal type, and color are stable, and the flower posture is very lovely; the leaf posture is graceful, making it a rare and excellent variety among plain flowers. In May 2002, Mr. Yonghuai, owner of Yonghuai Orchid Garden in Dali City, registered Gaopinsu as (Lan) No. 109 among China's famous orchid varieties.

The root system of Gaopinsu is thick and round, fleshy and plump, and does not branch. The pseudobulb is ellipsoidal, with its vertical length greater than its horizontal length, full and substantial. It has strong disease resistance and is not easily infected by pathogens or pests. It is easy to cultivate, with a high rate of shoot production and survival, strong reflowering ability, and tenacious vitality. It can adapt to different climates, and in most regions of the country, as well as in countries such as Japan and South Korea, it can likewise grow well, produce shoots, and bloom. After being introduced and cultivated in various places, it has generally been reported to perform well, and it is deeply loved by orchid enthusiasts around the world.
