History: During the Republic of China period, it was selected and bred by Yang Xingsheng; it was first recorded in "A Brief History of Orchids" under the name "Ruibutterfly" (currently known in orchid circles as Old Ruibutterfly).
Description: Old Ruibutterfly is one of only 2 ruibutterfly varieties among traditional Cymbidium goeringii varieties, and the only three-star (core) butterfly. Purple leaf buds, narrow leaf shape, width 0.6cm, length about 25cm, leaf posture semi-drooping, leaf surface with wide and deep V-shaped leaf grooves, leaf color dark green and glossy, leaf tips long and pointed.
Deep red flower buds interspersed with purple veins, green coloration heavy at the tip, flower stalk tall and upright extending above the leaves, scape reddish purple; the outer three petals are bamboo-leaf petals, the main petal upright, the tip slightly curved backward, drooping shoulders forming a splayed shape; the column petals are fully lip-transformed and recurved, combining with the original lip petal to form three tongues, with the column as the center, extending in three directions, with a green halo in the middle, the green halo adorned with bright striped red spots, petal edges snow-white like tongues; the outer three petals are emerald green facing each other, the inner whorl butterfly-transformed matching, the flower color both inside and outside is charming, bright and eye-catching, with dazzling colors, displaying an artistic beauty that is both symmetrical and well-proportioned.
This variety has strong stress resistance, strong reproductive capacity, frequent flowering, stable flower quality, mellow floral fragrance, and high cost-effectiveness, making it a rare inner butterfly flower art orchid. The column petals have no green halo in the middle, making the color whiter, and the central red spots more prominent, hence it is also called "Red Three-Core Ruibutterfly," and is a famous traditional variety of the "three-star butterfly" Cymbidium goeringii! Few butterfly orchids have been passed down in history, only a scant few varieties, and Old Ruibutterfly is a classic representative variety.
