A Detailed Introduction to the Cymbidium goeringii Cultivar Wanchun Mei
Wanchun Mei is a newly discovered plum-petal Cymbidium goeringii cultivar found in recent years in Tiantai, Zhejiang, and it first appeared at the 2009 Tonglu Orchid Show in Zhejiang!
In February 2003, it was found by Wang Zheqing, a farmer from Shanzhuan Village in front of the Wannian Temple in Tiantai, Zhejiang. It was later bought outright and cultivated by orchid enthusiast Shi Xiaobi from Xinchang County. After reblooming, it was named "Wanchun Mei". In 2009, it bloomed for the third time and won the gold award at the 9th Xinchang County Spring Orchid Show. Wanchun Mei has three outer petals that are round and tightly edged, with the main petal covering upward and the two side petals cupped inward, drooping slightly at the shoulders after being open for a long time. The silkworm-moth petals are round, smooth, and full; the ruyi tongue is restrained and understated. Wanchun Mei is medium in flower size, and its overall flower form is excellent. Combined with its tall, upright flower scape, it appears slender and graceful, with a sense of elegance like a jade tree in the wind. Unfortunately, the petals often have hidden red vein lines, which makes the petal texture somewhat less clean and the color slightly dull. If it could be a few shades brighter, it would truly be praiseworthy!
